This course is part of a series of courses on Painting and Coating of Structures. This is the first course in the series, Coating and Corrosion Preparation. This course starts off discussing corrosion and what the causes are for rust and corrosion. Next, it goes into surface preparation and how to remove lead-based paint.
There are three modules in this course. They are: Corrosion Basics, Surface Preparation, and Removing Lead Based Paints.
The two other courses in the series are: Coating Materials and Application and Coating Maintenance and Specifications. Although these are standalone courses, we suggest you take all three courses in the series for a better understanding of painting and coating on structures.
This course offers professional development hours (PDHs). You will see the PDHs on your course completion certificate, which also serves as documentation of your attendance. PDH requirements vary, therefore, it is up to you to determine whether or not this particular course qualifies under your State or board requirements.

Target audience: The target audience for this course is supervisors or engineers dealing with corrosion and coatings, but the information is also a good background for the technicians inspecting and maintaining coating system for a steel structure.
